as the first asian-american mayor in san francisco history. mayor lee championed balancing the budget to keep san francisco safe, solvents, and successful. he reformed city pensions. his focus is on economic development, job creation, and building san francisco's future. a great job, especially for helping out families. we want to keep families here. i also wanted to mention a little bit of his past. he was born in 1952 in the beacon hill neighborhood of seattle, washington. his parents immigrated to the u.s. from china and the 1930's. his father fought in world war ii and worked as a cook. he passed away when the mayor was 15. his mother was a seamstress and a waitress. mayor lee has five siblings, he graduated from college in maine, he also went to uc- berkeley law school and finished in 1978. he and his wife have two daughters. i also want to mention, prior to becoming mayor, one of the key points in his contributions to the community is after he completed law school, he worked as a managing attorney for the san francisco asian law caucus, where he was an advocate for affordable housing an
francisco can be proud of so many things, one of the things that i am very proud of when i think of san francisco is the fact that we have always been at the forefront of civil rights and at the forefront of lgbt rights. and there is a place in this world where i hope the city would be open to recognizing the contributions of an openly ldbt person. i would hope that that place would be san francisco. one of the things that struck me about this conversation is something that we learn about harvey milk. when he was first elected, he understood the significance of his election. i would like to share with you a part of what he said. it goes, the hope speech often talk about. this is what he said to use his own words: "two days after i was elected i got a phone call and the voice was quite young. it was from al tuna, pennsylvania. the person said things. you have to elected a people so that young child and thousands of people know that there is hope for a better tomorrow." without hope, gays, blacks, seniors, the "ss" give up. without hope life is not worth living. harvey closed, and you a

and fast track lanes are moving nicely. >> new this morning, a just-released report says san francisco muni overtime costs are over budget, and abc7 news reporter joins us live from the station with an employee who took an unbelievable amount in overtime. >> that is right. the "san francisco chronicle" is reporting that mull -- multiple muni employees made mother than $100,000 in overtime. the average worker, working 40 hours a week works about 2,000 hour as year. some clocked in 4,000 hours in a year. one mechanic made an extra $164,000 for clocking in 2,000 hours of overtime. the chief says the mechanic was paid for overnight work, on a new train control system when trains did not run. ten supervisors made more than $100,000 in overtime pay alone for the 2011 and 1212 fiscal year. one worked street corners keeping an eye on buss and trains and helping out in emergencies, and this supervisor clocked the most hours with 2,262 hours of overtime, earning an extra $147,000 on top of salary. we have a call in for a response to the shocking numbers and we do expect to have that coming up on abc7

it is astonishing, the san francisco chronicle is reporting that the city's overtime payment went $18 million over budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year of 25 top overtime earners who work for the city, 22 worked for muni. ten supervisors made more than $100,000 in overtime. bringing their pay to more than $200,000 for the year so they worked 80 hour work weeks every single week of the year. we have a breakdown of the pay for a mechanic whose base salary was $106,000. he put in for 1,954 hours of over time. an average person worked 2,000 a year so the mechanic got paid for work 4,000 hours in one year. at $83.85 an hour he made $163,842 in overtime. with add-ons he made more than $293,000 for the year. this happened during the first year of lee's mayor, and san francisco police and fire departments overpaid in overtime and those departments along with muni spent $154 million for that fiscal year in overtime. >> thank you. oakland officials will make a major announcement declaring a local state of emergency to seek outside help over a wave of violence with a recent attack involving a drive-by shooti

night. breaking into her san francisco home. assaulting and attempting to rape her. police say 25-year-old jovan jones was eventually tracked down. but as kron four's philippe djegal reports. that may not have happened so quickly if not for a good samaratan getting involved. >> reporter: this is where the san francisco police department says. a 26-year-old woman was assaulted saturday night. alta street. a small road on telegraph hill with no outlets. at night. the woman was entering her home. when 25-year-old jovan jones of marin city snuck up on her. forced his way into the home and threw the woman to the floor. police say he demanded money and some her stuff. then, threatened to kill her and assaulted her. police say someone outside of the home saw what was happening. and called 9-11. when police arrived. investigators say jones jumped off the balcony and ran off. less than an hour and a half later. with help of a california highway patrol helicopter. police tracked jones down a few blocks away from the victim's home on green street. jones was booked into san francisco county jail o

the super bowl, but san francisco city officials are already working on plans to keep crowds from getting out of control, if the 49ers win. kron 4's charles clifford has details on where things stand now. >> reporter: after the giants won the world series back in october, there were large crowds celebrating all over san francisco, things really got rowdy around mission and 22nd where people were blocking the street and lighting fires. there was also a large crowd and a bonfire outside att park and along market street a muni bus was vandalized and set on fire. the city, of course, is hoping to avoid a repeat of scenes like these if the 49ers win the super bowl. after the giants world series win, city officials learned a few things. for one, revelers started fires using garbage from near by trash cans. before the super bowl, the city will have the garbage picked up to literally remove fuel from the fires. muni may also make changes to bus and train routes along market street to avoid a repeat of this scene. the dpt will also be rerouting traffic around problem areas, like mission street, to
